Getting Back on the Road

Sickness, it’s everything we do not want yet there’s a good chance it’s going to eventually grab us. Hang in there and eventually it will pass, right? For most yes, but what about those of us that don’t quite fully recover? What if that sickness becomes more than a rough patch soon to pass? What if it consumes the very core of our existence? These circumstances may happen more often than we may think.

In my life I’ve had my share of health battles and from what experience I’ve gleaned, recovery is at the top of the daily agenda except for giving my awesome Lord Jesus thanks for life itself. Our bodies are smart, pain and discomfort will tell us we need to get up and move around and get some good oxygen in and blood flowing throughout our whole body. It feels so good even if only we are only able to stand up or sit up. It all sounds so easy right? Hmmmmmm…

Ok, the real truth it is very hard to get our damaged and hurting body moving! After the last transplant i found myself struggling so much I was praying I wouldn’t need to get up to use the toilet. Ya, that didn’t work long! Some of the easiest normal tasks can prove to be such a miserable experience. Here are some of the basic tasks I found I could do in my forward progress to living.

VERY IMPORTANT, this is what I do for starting recovery. GET YOUR DOCTORS APPROVAL! ALWAYS SAFETY FIRST !! ONE FALL CAN PERMANENTLY HURT !

Number 1 and utmost important to any recovery, eat food for energy and healing. Sounds easy right? The body must get good nutrition!

Number two sounds good on paper but isn’t easy, get up and walk. If needed start out by sitting up on the edge of the bed. Next work at standing and move toward walking even if you need help. Eventually Increase as you can but slowly INCREASE THE LENGTH OF TIME and distance. This also how I get out of the hospital quickly!

And last of the the top three is to be thankful for everything, even what you’re going through. Studies show happiness and thankfulness will increase recovery faster and besides, why not try to enjoy all life has to offer?

In closing I want to share one of my tips on staying healthy and remaining out of the hospital. Walk and then walk some more! I have found walking to be a solution for lowering blood sugars. It’s a way to build muscle and energy along with losing so water retention. Walking helps our mind to be content while feeling good about ourselves! When your recovery is complete it’s time to walk further, everyday if you can, try it and you will find yourself in a better place, ha, just don’t forget how to get home…..
