When Sickness Fades, the Battle Continues!

I thought I needed to write this as it most likely resonates with anyone with health battles. Everyone gets sick one time or another right? Of course I imagine there is not one single person that wants to become sick but, it happens.

The thing about sickness I believe it’s a mistake to categorize some sickness's are easier to get over than others. We all react different and what’s easy for some to bounce back with one virus someone else may die from the same thing. Ya, this is true and I’ve seen proof.

Case in point, my first transplant back in 1988. Thanks to our good and gracious God, I received my new heart and lungs from a young man whom was killed while running when a car hit him. Truly a tragic story that saved my life and another man named Jerry. My heart was in good condition yet medicine wasn’t yet ready to give me just the needed lungs so instead the heart and lungs came as a package. This allowed my heart to go to someone dying. This was Jerry and he needed this life saving heart due to a simple flu virus that had settled into his heart, literally yet systematically killing him. We never know what sickness can and will do until it happens.

It’s silly for anyone to worry of something so extreme as this happening but it can and maybe should remind us all to be vigilant in taking care of our health. Why wouldn’t we want to do the best we can and not take this wonderful life for granted?

I do honestly believe what happens will happen and I do put my trust and faith in my Lord Jesus but I also fully know I have a responsibility in my decisions and self care.

Back in the early days a rattle snake bite meant you were going to die! Even a broken bone could take us out but thankfully we live in a world of amazing medical advances. What once was a death sentence is now mearly a doctor or hospital away.

So I guess what I’m working towards is recovery isn’t easy, it’s not fun and it’s honestly really hard. We want to get back to where we were before, WE MUST PUSH OURSELVES!!!!! Yep, it’s hard but you’re worth it. Of course we need to be smart in our plan, what works for one person can be too much for another. We need to pace ourselves and we also need to stick with it.

Next Blog will be my outline with what I do for myself after a large downtime, watch for it…. We can always do better & work at a healthy life!
